Trucking Firm Settles Lawsuit Over Crash Involving Driver Using Phone

Trucking firms across the country may begin to enact bans on drivers using cell phones following the settlement of a personal injury lawsuit. Unifi Inc., recently settled an injury lawsuit filed by a South Carolina couple who was injured when a truck and trailer crashed into the back of their vehicle as they slowed to turn into their driveway. The lawsuit alleged that the truck driver was talking on his cell phone when the crash took place. Unifi Inc., a North Carolina-based manufacturer of polyester and nylon yarns, has agreed to settle the couple’s lawsuit for $3.75 million.
